TheALLSTARSCLUB.com

Greetings... It's been quite a while that I worked on adding graphics to this blog. Christmas came and went and the family and I had a terrific one this year.

I have been busy helping daughter shift her club to her own website-- yeah...she finally got one as promised by her dad if she could maintained and keep her club as popular as it first started about 6 months ago. Nicksplat.com was a great place for kids but it's time for her to venture forward to new territory where she can get a resemblance of control. While many kids love her club, many hated it and filled her guest books with vile messages, sometimes hogging over 100 pages while the administrative there took ages to remove the offenders.

So TheALLSTARSCLUB.com is born! I built it while learning web design from scratch and basically it's amateurish, something which I hope to go to school to learn someday soon. Daughter is great- well...at least in some of her graphic design. If you have a moment of free time, please visit the website at http://www.theallstarsclub.com and go to DigiArts. Her diary is worth reading too.

Until then, thanks for reading and have a happy New Year!

Vegetable Carving

This photo was taken on one of my fruit & vegetable carving exhibitions in conjunction with the Chinese Moon Cake Festival. It was such a tension trying to get everything organized and planned so that all the carvings are still fresh for the actual day. I had about 3 days to work on my concept and I think it turned up pretty well.

A lot of people asked if I used molds but nope, I don't. I only use this little sharp knife and that was all. I haven't been carving now for a while and actually miss it. My favorite is to create a side display on dishes and I love the vibrant colors of red and yellow chilis against a very green papaya. I used to do this food art in my fine dining kitchen when I was living in Thailand. The best compliment I received is when guests told me it was too nice to eat and stared at the plate for the longest time. Once, I even had to pack an entire watermelon carving so the guest could fly home with it.

I don't know the local market where I am staying currently but I hope soon I would be able to cook and entertain again. It's such a pleasure to sit down with close friends and chat over everything and nothing. I miss that.

Scrapbooking with Photos

I have always enjoyed taking photographs of faces. I find each one expressive and no word could describe how another individual would view it, his opinions and feelings could differ from me. What goes on in the mind of the faces I've taken?

I can only make out of each expression the way I think the person feels and by creating the theme for that particular photo, in a way, it is an expression of my feeling in relation to the subject. It makes me more aware of details. This is the way I feel most comfortable expressing because I believe it comes from within and it's honest. Pictures do tell more than stories and I find out by scrapbooking I am participing in the spirits of it.

About Me

My name is Alice Koh. I had been an Interior & Graphic Designer, a flight stewardess, a restaurant owner/chef, among many other ventures. My passion is craftworks and I have been indulging in this field for more than 15 years.

Digital Scrapbooking is new to me but I have been doing the traditional scrapbook since collage days. When I married my husband, I commit myself to join him in all his travels. We lived in many countries on short and long term base so having a stable, permanent job is impossible. Therefore, when I was introduced to Digital Scrapbooking a few years back, I was hooked. All the photos of our travels were scanned into the computer and I started journaling our lives and copied them into CDs. They made great gifts for long distance grandparents, relatives and friends as we are able to share a part of our nomadic livestyle with them. Distance isn't anymore a problem, in fact I received e-mail reminders to update them, especially since our daughter is fast growing into a beautiful young lady. My mother-in-law for instance loves that I could e-mail her a new layout every month to add to her own "Photo Gallery" in her dining room. She proudly tells me that friends and relatives like to visit her and chat about them.

That was the start of digital arts. Friends and relatives started asking me to create albums for them and the rest is history. So no matter where I am, be it in the South East Asia, Europe or the United States (San Francisco), I can work on a creation at anytime, any day of my convenience.

Please visit me often at my personal space. I usually have a new layout every week and hope to organize my graphic layout elements soon.

Until then, thank you for taking the time to read this.

Best Regards

Alice
